Research Associate/Associate Scientist, Antibody Discovery and Engineering

Location: Waltham, MA

Job Description:

Palleon Pharmaceuticals is seeking a highly motivated individual to join a dynamic team of scientists to express and purify antibodies and proteins to support therapeutics discovery. The primary responsibilities for this position include antibody screening, molecular cloning, expression, purification, analysis and characterization of recombinant antibodies and proteins. The successful candidate will be expected to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct hybridoma antibody screenings
  • Design primers and construct plasmid vectors
  • Analyze DNA and protein sequences
  • Express proteins/antibodies using mammalian cells (milligram to gram scale)
  • Purify and characterize proteins/antibodies
  • Troubleshoot and design strategies to express difficult proteins
  • Solve challenging protein purification problems
  • Design, execute, analyze, interpret, and document experiments
  • Attend team meetings, deliver presentations, and participate in discussions
  • Assist with general laboratory duties including lab equipment maintenance, ordering and receiving of research reagents

Qualifications:

  • BS/MS degree in molecular biology, biochemistry or related discipline
  • Minimum 2 years of industry experience
  • Hands-on experience in the following areas: molecular cloning, expression of recombinant proteins, protein purification, and protein characterization using analytical techniques

Skills: 

  • ELISA, Octet, flow cytometry
  • RT-PCR, PCR, mutagenesis, cloning, transformation, bacterial culture
  • Cell transfection, mammalian cell culture
  • Various chromatography techniques (affinity and size-exclusion chromatography)
  • AKTA protein purification systems
  • DNA and protein electrophoresis, western blotting
  • Familiarity with DNASTAR Lasergene or similar programs
  • Critical problem-solving skills and the ability to multi-task
  • “Can do” attitude and motivation to succeed in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Interest in and enthusiasm for learning and applying new technologies when required
